Alexa's love for fashion began in high school. She took up sewing as a hobby, and it eventually became her life's passion. Alexa loves the satisfaction she gets each time she executes a sketch and creates a tangible garment. While completing her degree in Fashion Design at FIT, Alexa designed an organic, fashion-forward collection for the Sustainable Business and Design fashion show. In honor of her grandmother who died from cancer, Alexa gathered a team of student designers who put on a special fashion show as part of the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" benefit. The show raised over $3,000, and Alexa and her colleagues have been invited to return next year. This year, she held a prestigious internship with an esteemed designer and even had the chance to attend New York Fashion Week! Alexa is very excited to design for the Addressing Psoriasis™ Fashion Show (http://www.addresspsoriasis.com/meet_designers/alexa_damico.html for more info) and watch the winners show others with psoriasis that they can be confident in their personal style. She says, "I look forward to making a garment for one of the winners that leaves them feeling beautiful inside and out!"

I'm an instructor at our Pompton Lakes location, has been sewing most of her life.  My mom began teaching me how to sew at the age of 11.  I loved it immediately and before long I took pride in the fact that everything in my closet was made by me.

My passion for sewing, fabrics, colors and creativity led me to major in fashion merchandising in college.  I held a number jobs in retail but my sewing passion always brought to the back rooms of the manufacturers to actually view the creative sewing process.  I learned more and more from sample hands and patternmakers.

During my summers in college I worked for an innovative fabric and sewing company called “Stretch and Sew” where I learned how to work with knits to create wonderful T-shirts, sweatshirts, bathing suits and yes, even lingerie!

I have also worked for Janome Sewing Machine Company where I have become a bit of an expert on all types of sewing machines, sergers and embroidery machines.  While working with all the expert sewing specialists at Janome I learned the art of quilting.  I am currently having a great fun experimenting with this art form.

Come in, take a class with me and I will be thrilled to share my passion and secrets with you!
